Orlando roll 5

These are from my roll of film using my Olympus OM-10. All of which minus the first were taken at a Zoo. Some of the shots turned out over exposed with very little contrast (for example the last one). I played around quite a bit with the ISO with this roll as it is expired to see different results.

I'm really pleased with how vivid a lot of the colours turned out in the majority of the photographs.

Orlando Roll 3

So here are all the photo's from Orlando Roll 3 ! Despite the fact that a lot of the photo's didn't turn out because of the back of the camera being opened , it made some quite cool effects (light leakage) on photo 7 which I love.

I've loaded my OM-10 with an AGFA roll from poundland which I have some exciting ideas about using.

First shoot over view

Olympus OM 10 , first shoot overview

So I'm guessing by this point a lot of people have already seen all if not some of the images above from my first shoot using my om10 especially as I've posted them on 500px , Flickr , pinterest & tumblr. The roll was a 36 exposure however I only posted my favourites (the 12 above).

I had such a great time using my camera for the first time , it was so exciting waiting for them to be processed even more so because I used expired film so I wasn't sure how they would turn out.

The film I used was AGFA , ISO 200 and the expiry date was 2005.

Using the camera:
The camera itself has an auto shutter speed unless you get the manual adapter which I purchased after I processed the first roll and I am so glad I got it! I'm half way through shooting my second and I have so much more confidence shooting knowing I have control over the shutter speed. Some of my shots which I haven't uploaded came out blurry because I didn't have as much control over the camera as I wanted due to not having the manual adapter.
I have honestly learnt more about how to use a camera properly in these past 2/3 weeks than I have in the past 2/3 years. Film photography has brought me right back to basics and I feel like I'm starting afresh!

on a side note: I've hit 11,166 views & almost 200 'favourites' on this photo :

That I uploaded to Flickr on January 5th which is the most views/favourites I've ever reached! which is super exciting!

Thank you all for your support

Orlando, Roll 1

My first roll shooting with Orlando

In my last post I talked briefly about my new camera, the Olympus om10 and I finished my first roll about a week ago and just today got it processed and I'm unbelievably excited with the results considering my first roll was getting used to the camera also I wasn't sure how the photo's would turn out because I was using expired film. It's safe to say I'm definitely using expired film again, I'm obsessed already!

Here's some of my shots! Keep checking out my blog for more photo's :)

Only basic editing used i.e. cropping & adding watermark.

Darkroom

As I was searching through my old college books from last year I discovered some of my old darkroom work which really encouraged me even more so to continue shooting old school with film.

It's a totally different experience than shooting digitally and I recommend anyone who is into photography to try it especially if the opportunity to develop the photographs yourself arises rather than sending them to the local ASDA for somebody else to do.

I hope to one day have the chance to develop my own colour rolls as well as my black and white ones in a lab.

Here's some of my work:

The techniques I used for the first one: I burnt the negative with a lighter then used a scalpel to scratch into it then I created the print with a long exposure to create the high contrast.

Techniques used for the second:
I scratched the negative, A LOT. This photo is a silhouette of Jennii which I distressed by using a  scalpel and anything else I could find to scratch into it.

Techniques used for the third photo:
I didn't do anything to the negative in this case however after I had shot it and started to develop , I didn't put the photographic paper in the developer tray instead I put developer in a spray bottle and sprayed it on, concentrating on certain areas which created this bubble like appearance.

Happy Christmas!

Happy Christmas everyone! I was determined to do another blog post before Christmas but life just took over and I didn't have the time so here's just a quick one.

The more and more research I was doing for college looking through photographers work the more I found I was leaning towards the more traditional route and decided I wanted to get hold on an Analogue film camera which is something I have wanted for a few years now.

I was lucky enough to receive an Olympus om10 film camera for Christmas along with 12 rolls of expired film , the oldest being from 1961 which I simply cannot wait to use.

I contemplated doing the project 365 in the new year, but realistically I know it's something I'd struggle to complete however I have decided to make it a new years resolution to take more and more photo's and to experiment more with my film camera.

This morning I loaded my camera with a 36 exposure AGFA colour film (expired on 06/2005) , I look forward to seeing the results and blogging them!

Merry Christmas!

This weeks favourites

As mentioned in my previous post it was 2012 that I started becoming more and more familiar with the idea of photography and pursuing it as a passionate interest, I've explored lots of different genres in photography since. Ranging from Landscapes to Still life , the more I have experimented with the more gradually I have found where I am most comfortable (however I do like a good challenge). Recently I have discovered my love for Product photography and Still life photography.

Here are some images from the past week.

This last image is a photo of a Nikon film camera (without the lens attached), I took the image with my Canon DSLR looking directly towards the mirror which is inside the Nikon body. What I like most amount this photo is that it looks quite unusual, not to everyone's taste.
